For visitors

Visitors exhibiting influenza-like symptoms are asked not to visit units. Adults should not visit within five days of onset of symptoms, children within 10 days of onset of symptoms. In extenuating circumstances, visitors with symptoms may be allowed to visit, pending approval by nursing staff.

This policy is applicable to all units with the exception of the Newborn Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. See below for visitor policy on NICU and PICU

Influenza-like symptoms are when someone has a fever greater than 100 F and at least one other symptom, such as cough, runny nose, sore throat, etc.

The individual will be asked to wear a facemask for the protection of the patient, health care providers and other visitors.

Visitation is always at the discretion of the care team based on your needs. The care team may need to ask visitors to leave for a number of reasons, including to:

TMC allows visitation 24 hours a day, subject to the following guidelines:

An unlimited number of visitors are permitted with the following exceptions:

Two visitors at a time in a patient room; no limit on the number of visitors in the course of a day. Children aged 12 years and older may visit.

Two visitors at a time for adult and pediatric surgery patients; no limit on the number of visitors in the course of a day.

One visitor at a time is allowed for adult patients and two for pediatric patients who attend outpatient appointments.

Additional visitors in restricted areas may be allowed for a patient at the end of life or under other special circumstances. Please consult with the patient's care team or unit manager, as exceptions are allowed on a case-by-case basis.

All visitors have a right to full and equal visitation privileges consistent with patient preferences. Staff cannot restrict, limit or otherwise deny visitation privileges on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or disability.

The TMC Auxiliary runs the TMC Gift Shop, and all proceeds are donated back for equipment and services within TMC.

Send flowers and gifts to a patient by calling (520) 324-5885. A volunteer will let you know availability and cost. After hours, leave a message on the voicemail, and a volunteer will return your call the next business day.

Most importantly, the Desert Cradle offers a full line of breast pumps for both rental and sale, breastfeeding bras and clothing, as well as an extensive assortment of breastfeeding supplies and accessories. The Desert Cradle staff includes certified bra fitters.

Parking is available near TMC’s entrances, including in the main parking garage west of the TMC Orthopaedic and Surgical Tower and the TMC Emergency Department. Bicycle racks are located at each of the hospital's main entrances.

Free valet parking is available to patients and visitors at the driveway in front of the surgical tower. TMC volunteers provide surrey service and courtesy cars during business hours, for destinations inside the hospital and elsewhere on the campus. Volunteers at TMC Information Desks can help locate a surrey, or call (520) 324-5888.

In addition, shuttle buses circulate between the hospital and outlying parking lots for employees and visitors. 

We ask adult visitors to sign in and present a government-issued photo ID and sign in each day when a patient in Pediatrics, Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby so that a temporary visitor badge may be issued. We appreciate your assistance in helping us maintain a safe and secure environment.

In order to provide a restful environment that promotes healing, TMC has Quiet Hours daily between 2 - 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. - 5 a.m. During Quiet Hours we ask that everyone lowers voices and limits noise as much as possible. During these hours, the lighting on the unit is dimmed, and deliveries and traffic on the unit is limited as much as possible. In situations where noise is unavoidable, earplugs are available by request and can be obtained simply by asking any hospital staff member.

Smoking is not allowed on the TMC campus. Neither smoking nor vaping is not allowed within the hospital or campus grounds. Tucson Medical Center is a tobacco-free campus.
